Understanding the Collection Process

Learn more about how HOA assessment collection works

When an account is referred to us, we begin with a structured communication process. We send formal demand letters, make phone contact, and work to establish payment arrangements. Most accounts are resolved during this initial phase without needing legal action.

Yes, we work with delinquent owners to establish reasonable payment arrangements when appropriate. Our goal is to collect the amounts owed while helping owners get back on track. Payment plans are structured to ensure the association receives regular payments.

We'll need the owner's name, property address, contact information, current balance breakdown (assessments, late fees, interest), and copies of your governing documents. Our team will guide you through the referral process and help gather any missing information.

Timeline varies based on circumstances, but many accounts are resolved within 30-90 days through our systematic process. Cases requiring litigation take longer, but we keep the association informed throughout. You can track progress in real-time through our ONYX portal.

In most states, assessment liens run with the property, meaning they must be paid at closing. We work with title companies and closing agents to ensure all outstanding amounts are collected from the sale proceeds. This is often the most straightforward path to resolution.

Existing clients can access ONYX at onyxanywhere.com. If you need login credentials or have forgotten your password, contact our office and we'll help you get set up. New clients receive ONYX access as part of our engagement.
